The Altar Society of Holy Rosary Church was the brainchild of Doris P’ng way back in 1975. A few ladies volunteered and the Society was formed. Mary Szetho was elected as the first coordinator that year. Our main objective is to ensure that the Altar is decorated with flowers for Eucharistic celebrations, feast days and weddings.
Fond memories of our earlier pioneers go to Nancy Tan, the Sacristan Xavier who was always willing to lend a helping hand and our popularly known “Mama Annie Yap,” who is till today, the pillar of support to our Altar Ladies Society.
Altar coordinators were Susan Lee (1992-2000), Agnes Tan (2001-2002) and Susan Lee (2003-2006). Present coordinator is Anne Lai (2007 – 2013), secretary is Linda Li Eng; committee members are: Bernadette Lee, Agnes Tan, Bibian Wong, Christina Kam, Irene Lee, Susan Lee, Annie Yap and Anna Ng.
We ensure that our Altar always look its best, be it on Sunday Masses or on occasions like feast days, when the carriage of our Blessed Mother Mary would be decorated with exotic roses, lovely lilies and colourful hydrangeas. The Altar is decorated following liturgical themes, for example, green theme for Lent and purple for Advent.
